Daniel J. — known to his TikTok community as @justdanielj, or by his brand name "Dead Broke" — isn't new to content creation. He's been doing it for over a decade, watching platforms rise, algorithms shift, and entire industries get rebuilt around new tools, again and again.
"I've been creating content for well over ten years," Daniel said. "You learn a lot in that time. Platforms change, what works changes, but the core of it never really does — you have to keep showing up and keep adapting."
That adaptability is part of what led him to build Dead Broke Clothing Co. from the ground up, largely on his own, using his phone and whatever tools he could get his hands on to run nearly every part of the business himself.
One of the biggest shifts in his process recently has been AI.
"AI has helped me a lot with building out the site," Daniel explained. "Product descriptions, SEO, figuring out things I never would have known how to do on my own — it's been a real tool in actually getting this brand built the right way, not just thrown together."
For a solo entrepreneur running a brand primarily from a phone, with no team and no outside funding, that kind of leverage matters. Daniel handles product copy, site setup, SEO strategy, and daily content — on top of running TikTok Live sessions that serve as the brand's primary sales channel.
"Ten years ago, none of this existed the way it does now," he said. "You had to know how to code, or hire someone, or spend weeks figuring things out. Now, if you're willing to put in the work and actually learn how to use the tools available, you can build something real without needing a big team behind you."
Despite the new tools, Daniel is clear that none of it replaces the fundamentals he's built over ten years of creating content: consistency, authenticity, and showing up every single day.
"The tools help you move faster," he said. "But the story, the grind, the hustle — that part's still all you."
